    Acclimation

We have experienced people arriving the Zurich airport and then transferring directly to the first hotel in Lucerne and doing an excursion in the afternoon without any difficulty.

If anyone decides to do just the Main Trip, day 1, and then make the 2 hour train transfer from the airport to Lucerne, where you change trains and continue to Engelberg at 3000ft and then begin the hike on day #2, you will be OK

The highest elevation on Day 2 is 6,000 ft and we end up at Meiringen at 3,000 ft.

Of course if you spend a few days beforehand getting your Swiss land legs this is OK too. Please see the pre-trip – additional 2 hights if you are so inclined.

    Elevation

The hiking elevation changes range from 3,000 ft to 6,000 ft during most of the trip.

The only major increase in elevation to 11,200 ft is when we take the cog-wheel train to the top of the Jungfrau. When we get to this elevation we will take it slow to get acclimated and are mostly indoors viewing the various exhibits.

    We can also go outdoors:
There is a platform to walk out on to see the Aletsch glacier area.

There is also a snow packed 45 minute walk to the Mönch alpine hut, the highest in Europe.

Depending on the weather, we can see what makes most sense to do and how much time to spend on top.

We have an 3 hour Eiger Trail hike planned in the afternoon so we want to make sure we budget enough time to be able to handle everyone’s wish list.
