Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best way to get around in Switzerland?
The Swiss Public Transport System is one of the most efficient systems in the world and probably also the most expensive. However, purchasing a multi-day pass makes it more affordable.
Most locals buy either a half-tax card allowing them to purchase all tickets at 50% reduction or a Swiss Pass where an annual fee allows for unlimited travel on the system. Only the multi-day passes are available to visitors from other countries.
What kind of shape must I be in to participate on the ECHO Trails tours?
Our half day tours are easy and the total walking time is approximately 1 ½ hrs.
The full day hiking and biking tours have actual hiking/cycling time of 3 to 4 hrs. and can include climbing steps or hills with height differences of up to 200 meters and thus are more demanding.
Our pace is leisurely with frequent stops so if you are of average health, you can do all the tours.
What kind of shoes do I need?
We highly recommend proper hiking boots for good ankle support and more confident stride on uneven terrain. However, especially the half day walks are easily doable in regular walking/jogging shoes.
What’s the terrain like that I will be walking / hiking on?
All itineraries follow the regularly maintained and clearly signposted ‘Wanderweg’ paths that can be either paved or unpaved, gravel or rough stones.
What do I need to bring along for the tour?
For sure bring your camera as you will want to take pictures. A bottle of water, sunscreen, sun hat and a rain jacket are good to have in your backpack.
The weather in the area can change quickly, so it is best to be prepared. If you have them, you also may want to bring your walking sticks along. Don’t forget to take some money along as we will stop at a local restaurant for a lunch or a drink.
What about inclement weather?
As the weather can change quickly, the tours will depart even if it looks a little rainy as it can clear up by the time we reach our starting point. However, if there is a forecast for either hard storms or hard rain making the tours outright dangerous, we will refund you your participation fee. Always leave a telephone number where you can be reached, so we can let you know if we have to cancel a tour due to inclement weather.
Rest and relax after a long flight at the Zurich Airport Wellness Center before going any further. A two hour recharge for just CHF 35 is well worth it.
